Q. Where are you based?
A. I am based in Blackwood, South Australia. All travel for mobile services is however charged from the Adelaide CBD.
Q. What is your email address?
A. Email: [email protected]
Q. Do you have a FaceBook page?
Q. Do you have an Instagram page?
Q. How much experience do you have?
A. I have 14 plus years’ experience working as a freelance hair and makeup artist. I commenced my business in 2006 after becoming qualified, however prior to this I gained extensive experience as a makeup consultant for Estee Lauder at David Jones.
Q. What qualifications do you hold?
A. I hold a Certificate II and Certificate III in Makeup Services. I’ve been trained by world-renowned hair and makeup artists, including Rae Morris (International Makeup Artist), Sharon Blain (Word Acclaimed Long Hair Educational Artist), and Lizzie Liros (International Wedding and Celebrity Hairstylist). I continue participate in regular training to ensure my work is of the highest quality.
Q. Why should I hire a professional for my wedding?
A. When investing so much money, time, and effort into one day, it is important that you also invest in your hair and makeup. Your hair and makeup will be captured in both video and photos, both of which will serve as lasting memories of your special day. A professional knows how to apply your makeup and style your hair so that it lasts the entire day. They are also trained in how to apply makeup for high definition technology, including videography and photography, so that your makeup not only looks beautiful in person but also in photos and on video.
Q. What hair and makeup brands do you use?
A. Hair and makeup brands that we use include but are not limited to the following:
- Makeup Forever
- Temptu Airbrush
- By Terry
- Laura Mercier
- Make-up Studio
- White Sands
- Cloud Nine
Q. What is airbrush makeup?
A. Airbrush makeup is makeup that is applied using a compressor and airbrush gun. Airbrush makeup is smudge proof, tear proof, water resistant, lasts at least 14 hours (and that’s being conservative), and creates a beautiful flawless base. It can be applied with a light, medium, or full coverage, with a matt or dewy finish. It is my favourite and recommended application of makeup for events where you want your makeup to last all day without the need for touch ups.
Q. What type of makeup do you recommend for mature age clients?
A. We recommend hand applied makeup for mature age clients, as this type of makeup application is much gentler and more suitable for mature skin.
Q. I have sensitive skin and / or allergies are you still able to provide services?
A. We offer hair and makeup services to those with sensitive skin and/ or allergies. In the event of sensitive skin, I will do a small swatch of products on your skin (hand or arm) to check for any reactions prior to commencing services. For those with allergies, I will check ingredients of products to be used and if it is still unknown if a product contains an ingredient that the client is allergic to, may use the client’s products to ensure no allergic reactions. We take all allergies VERY seriously.
Q. Do you provide a mobile service?
A. As a freelance hair and makeup artist, I offer a mobile service and travel to most locations within the Adelaide, SA region. This means you can prepare for your wedding, formal, or special occasion in the comfort of your own home or accommodation, without the need to travel. The minimum mobile service fee prior to travel and parking being applied is $300.00. In cases where the booking fee does not reach this amount, a surcharge will apply. I also offer bookings in my studio.
Q. What is the ‘All Day Bridal Service’?
A. If you want to be treated like a princess for the day, the ‘All Day Bridal Service’ is for you! I will personally attend to all of your touch up needs throughout your photographs and prior to your reception, ensuring that your makeup and hair continue to look perfect. I can even revamp your makeup for your reception, taking it from day to evening. The ‘All Day Bridal Service’ commences immediately after hair styling and makeup application services have been completed.
Q. Do you offer hair and makeup lessons?
A. Yes! We offer both private lessons and group lessons. Please refer to the Melissa Nicole Hair & Makeup 2018 Price List for prices.
Q. How do I get a copy of your Terms and Conditions?
A. Please click here to view a copy of my Terms and Conditions.
Q. Should I have a trial prior to my wedding?
A. All brides that book with Melissa Nicole Hair & Makeup are required to have a trial. Trials are booked for 4 – 6 weeks out from the wedding. A trial is an integral part of planning your hair and makeup look. Not only does it give you the opportunity to try out your hair and makeup look prior to your wedding day, but it also gives you the opportunity to make changes should you wish to do so. We can also assess the condition of your hair and skin and give you helpful hints in order to prepare for your special day. Finally, having a trial with me prior to the day allows you to meet me in person and get to know me, so that on your wedding day you feel like you are sharing your special day with someone you know, not a complete stranger. If you do decide not to have a trial prior to your wedding day, then additional time will need to be allowed on your wedding day for a consultation and charges will apply accordingly.
Q. Do my bridesmaids, Mother-of-the-Bride, and Mother-of-the-Groom need to have a trial?
A. It is completely up to you whether you just have a trial for yourself or whether you would like others to trial their wedding day look too. Regardless, the bridesmaids’ hair and makeup look are discussed in the consultation time at your trial.
Q. What happens at a trial?
A. Your trial will include a thorough consultation. We discuss your desires for your and your bridal parties’ hair and makeup, and go through pictures of looks that you like. Be prepared for lots of questions as we establish what you and your bridesmaids are wearing, the colour of dresses, flowers, where you’ll be getting married, the time of the day, the season and possible weather, in order to plan and design a look suitable for you! Once the consultation is complete I’ll style your hair and makeup as I would on the day. On completion of your trial, photographs will be taken and records made in order for me to be able to reproduce your look on your special day. Any changes to hair and makeup will be noted and I encourage you to contact me at any time after your trial to discuss any changes to your look or wedding day plans.
Q. Can my bridal party attend my trial?
A. We recommend that your bridal party do not attend your trial. Your trial is a time for us to meet and undertake a thorough consultation about your hair and makeup for your wedding day, prior to styling hair and applying makeup. Having too many people present can cause distractions and make it harder for a one-on-one consultation. However, if you do wish to bring someone along to your trial, we recommend that you only bring one person who you trust and who will contribute positively towards your trial.
Q. How much time do you allow for hair and / or makeup trials?
A. Hair Trials: 1.5 hours for the first person and 1 hour per person for any subsequent people. Makeup Trials: 1.5 hours for the first person and 45 minutes per person for any subsequent people. Hair and Makeup Trial: 3 hours for the first person and 1 hour 45 minutes for any subsequent people.
Q. How should I prepare for my trial?
A. Please see information on how to prepare for your trial here.
Q. Do I need to bring anything to my trial?
A. Please bring the following items to your trial:
- pictures and material swatches of the bride and bridesmaids’ gowns
- any veils and/ or hair pieces that will be worn by the bride and bridesmaids
- pictures of hair and makeup looks that you like for both the bride and bridesmaids
- any other information that demonstrates the style of your wedding.
These items will allow me to visualize your ideas for hair and makeup, and design a look around the style of your wedding.
Q. What should I wear to my trial?
A. Please wear a top that buttons or zips up and does not need to be pulled over your head when changing. DO NOT wear tops with collars or hoods as these make hair at the nape of your neck fuzzy. No woolen clothing is to be worn near the nape area. Please wear a top that is a similar colour to the outfit that you will be wearing on the day of the wedding.
Q. Where do you conduct trials?
A. Hair and makeup trials are conducted in our studio at Blackwood.
Q. What days do your conduct trials?
A. Hair and makeup trials are held Wednesdays and Fridays between the hours of 9:30am and 2:30pm. Unfortunately we are unable to conduct trials on weekends due to wedding bookings (unless of course we have a very rare weekend free).
Q. How do I arrange a trial?
A. Please contact me here to arrange a trial. Bookings are taken on a first come, first serve basis. Once a date and time has been set, you will receive a confirmation email with an invoice for payment of a deposit. The deposit must be paid in order to confirm your booking. Q. What time will you need to commence services?
A. We ensure that hair and makeup services are finished 30 minutes prior to the photographer arrival time. In the event that a photographer will not be in attendance, we will finish services 1 to 1.5 hours prior to your departure time. Subsequently we work back from this time to establish the amount of time we require to complete services and will advise your start time accordingly.
Q. How much time do you allow for hair and makeup services?
A. On average, we allow 45 minutes per person for makeup services and 1 hour per person for hair services, however, times may vary depending on the style of makeup and / or hair chosen, and the length and thickness of hair. We also allow set up time, spare time and consultation time (if you did not have a trial). However if we bring a Hair & Makeup Assistant the overall time we require as a team to complete services is halved as we will both be working on people at the same time.
Q. For my wedding booking does the bride need to be included in services?
A. If you are making a wedding booking for hair styling and makeup application services, the bride will need to be included in the numbers for both hair AND makeup. If you are making a wedding booking for just makeup application services, the bride will need to be included in the numbers for makeup. If you are making a wedding booking for just hair styling services, the bride will need to be included in the numbers for hair.
